Secrets Revealed: How we travel & Why we love Europe

Thanks for subscribing to Holistic Travellers. This is Suneela and Yeswanth and we are travelling to Europe again! Through this email series, we will share our travel journey, stories and history.

How do we travel

Yes, we are going to Europe again this year. That's three times in three years. Whenever I have shared this with others, I often get this question asked to me - "Where do you work? And how do you fund your travels?"

Here's a small Instagram post we did on this - [Link to Instagram Post]

And honestly, both Suneela and I just love travelling. Sometimes, we are working less, just so that we can take time to travel and explore the world. We save when we can and spend on travel whenever we can.

That makes sense, but why Europe?

There are many reasons why Europe is our favourite continent. Here are a few:

  • Great public transport - Europe is easy to get around and explore cities at a leisure pace. Trams, Subway, Buses, Trains, and sometimes gondolas are available to reach from one place to another.

  • Highly accessible nature - In many European countries, getting to nature is quite easy. Sometimes, you can walk in your backyard and reach nature in no time.

  • Accessible history - Europe has a lot of history. Some of the Monuments and places are more than 2000 years old. The history is also quite accessible and well preserved. You can do a walking tour or just go to a tourist office to identify places or museums to explore by yourselves.

When Europe?

So the question for us is not "Why Europe?", but "When Europe?".

When we plan our trip, the first thing we look at is the flights. We identify a few cities in Europe and check which are the cheapest flights available. We also look for the cheapest dates to travel to Europe. And once we have a few options, we start formulating a rough plan around that city/country.

For this trip, we booked a flight ✈️ to Zurich. Since we love long travel, we decided to stay in Europe till the end of May till we absolutely need to leave this region (because of visa).

Our Plan

We initially thought of spending a week in Switzerland, but it was quite last minute and we couldn't find cheaper accommodation. So, after a week of playing around with the idea of travelling to Switzerland, we gave up and decided to travel to the next best country offering Alpine views, aka Austria.

Austria is situated right next to Switzerland, and we found that it also has a similar look and feel to Switzerland. ⛰️ Alps cover 60% of the country's territories. As we have previously travelled to the Tyrol Region (we have visited the Tyrol region in Italy aka Dolomites region a few years ago), we were quite excited to plan a trip to the Tyrol Region of Austria. Its famous capital is Innsbruck, a small city with views of the alps from every direction. We also wanted to spend a couple of weeks in Austria and formulated a small plan to stay in Innsbruck and move west to Salzburg and Vienna.

We only booked our accommodations till Austria and had a rough plan to go to the neighbouring countries after this.

Conclusion

We knew that our plan is not formulated fully. It's quite up in the air. We will figure out the rest of the plan as we go along. Quite exciting, no?

Thanks to Divya Hasti for some amazing recommendations of places in Central Europe.

That's all for now. In our next email, I will share more details on our trip to Austria. And our experience of being stuck in one remote village, without any means to travel back to our Airbnb 🤔

This email series is meant for us to share a few stories and a few pictures from our journey in Europe. We would love to get replies from you and hear your thoughts or suggestions while we continue writing about our journey in Central Europe 😀
